The City of Yuma Public Safety Training Complex was designed by Nicklaus under the Open-End Architectural Services Contract with the City of Yuma. The project consisted of two facilities to be located within the City of Yuma Training Site. Nicklaus worked closely with City staff members, including the City Engineer, and the fire and police departments, to create programs for each project that satisfied the needs and demands of the end-users, and to create plans with a full functional flow to meet the vision of the City’s master plan for the site. The Public Safety Training Complex consisted of a 14,700 SF facility that contained a series of fully equipped simulation labs, fitness, and defense tactics training rooms, drive in training bay for fire department vehicles, a library, classrooms with separate break-out rooms, shower facilities, and office space. This state-of-the-art facility provides space for continuing education, physical training, and community programs and activities. A pre-engineered metal building system was utilized to reduce costs and provide maximum flexibility for future re-configuration.
